Sony or Nintendo; this is probably the most asked question in the games industry with forums inundated with gamers opinions on the subject, but can you really compare these two global gaming powerhouses?
There are some areas in which the Wii is superior to the PS3, however in others the PS3 dominates. With the Wii, Nintendo has completely changed our perspective of gaming and brought a new concept to the fore; using motion sensor technology to get people more involved and active in their participation of games. Whilst Sony’s attempt to replicate Nintendo’s motion sensor technology is no where near the same standard, the PS3 is far more advanced in other areas; high-definition graphics, a hard drive and Blu-ray playback. There is also a difference in the games available for the systems, Wii games tend to be more simplistic and seem to have a wider target audience, whereas the titles available for the PS3 are a lot more detailed and seem to be aimed at a more mature audience.
There are similar differences between the handheld consoles available. The PSP offers a far better visual experience, almost rivalling that of the PS2 as well as more in depth gameplay. Its use of memory sticks mean it can be used as an all-round multimedia device. However the Nintendo DS has two screens, one of which being touch sensitive which like the Wii offers a more interactive experience for the user. As well as the dual screen it has voice activation which offers more scope for gameplay and it is backwards compatible with Gameboy Advance titles. The games available on each console differ as well, PSP games run on UMDs which can hold a lot more information and make the games more detailed. Nintendo DS games on the other hand are easier to play and can be quick gaming, even though a lot of titles are geared towards children there are a variety of other games available.
All in all it comes down to personal preference; they could almost be put into different categories. Sony products offer a much better visual and complete gaming experience, whereas Nintendo’s products are more innovative and appeal to a wider range of people.
